3 Ways to Strengthen Perseverance

How to build perseverance? How do determined people manage to deal with various situations while others simply fall into despair when confronted with problems? Here are three recommended ways to strengthen your perseverance :

1. Concentrate on your successful final achievement

When you fall apart and none of your friends comes to help, then whom you can count on to support you? The answer is : your own thinking.
Yes, it is your mind, not your friends, nor your partner nor even your spouse, that can take you out from the pit of disappointment. They might motivate you to rise again but somehow in the end it will be your own thinking that will actually help you at that crucial moment.
Let your mind concentrate or look at your successful final achievement and it will keep your spirit and courage to struggle on. It also will prevent you from feeling so desperate and completely defeated.
When they fail, most people tend to sink into a deep despair, a great sense of loosing materially and psychologically. This is where the danger lies.
Most people usually let their present low scoring achievements worry and haunt their mind. Say that up to this moment your achievement so far is “not good”. Naturally you would then let this fact serve as a basic upon which reason your further thinking goes. It would result in some “not good consciousness” in your mind. If this “not good consciousness” or “failure consciousness” is repeatedly introduced into your mind, eventually it would sink into your sub consciousness and remain trapped there with all harmful consequences it may inflict.

Here is a relevant expression :
“Control your mind for you can do a lot of things with it.”

2. Surround yourself with positive things

Having positive things around you will greatly stimulate you in building up your perseverance or resolution :
Positive things may vary :
- Praying
- Listening to motivating narrations from cassettes
- Putting positive pictorial posters around your place
- Reading books of positive material
- Decorate your room with positive atmosphere
- Making friends with positive thinking people

3. Keep away from unlikely worries

Just accept and admit whenever your business venture fails. You loose a lot of money, you are in huge debts you can’t pay. That’s really an enormous problem! And still you let yourself even more burdened with things like : what people would say about you, how their judgments against you would be, what your neighbour would say, what your parent would say, what your parent would ask you and tell you, and so on.
But by deeper thinking, you would generally find no real disturbing things there. Actually no one would really care about the fate of your business. More likely they would mind their own business and spare no time on yours.
One most recent study states that 93% of the things we worry about, do not actually exist, only 7% do. And of the existing real problems, some are beyond our capabilities to deal with. Thus why should you worry about things you can do nothing about?

    Very good points!

….even if others come to your assistance, if you hold fast in negative thinking, there is nothing those friends present can do to overcome one’s own determination to remain in the negative.

Yes, focus on the positive…Our focus dictates what we see, which reinforces our focus, further confining the possibility of what we will see.

and…“Worry is like a rocking chair–it gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.”

Many blessings to you and all you hold dear,
    CG

Greats article. Your points are a concise clear way to have more perseverance. I like how you included eliminating worries, that gets in the way of so much achievement for people it is actually quite scary. Wise words my friend!

    Hi Arswino,

This is good stuff! What jumps out at me is the 93% of things we worry about don’t actually exist. This really says a lot about worry - and why we really shouldn’t be doing it.

    Great article!

Hi Walters. Yes, we must focus on positive things. Thank you for the comment, Walters. :)

Hi Mike. Oftentimes, we do not take any action because the worries that do not actually exist. What a pity. Thank you Mike. :)

Hi Lance. Yes, worry doesn’t make us grow. One said, “Don’t worry, be happy!”. Thanks for your comment, Lance. :)

    Hi Arswino

I great 3 points. Personally another things that really help keep my perseverance. Is to keep focus on my “Why”! My reasons to why I want to do this?

    Hi Arswino,

I like having 3 main points - makes it easy to remember. My favourite is surrounding myself with positive people, because once I do this, I pick up all the other good habits and attitudes from them! Great post.

When we worry too much we take away from time that we can actually use to make changes in our lives. Like you said, we worry about things we can’t change. It reminds me of Buddhism - when we grasp on to life we are really grasping on to pain. It’s when we let go of our expectations that life becomes flowing and enjoyable.

Hi Arswino. This is an EXCELLENT article! This is great advice.

Personally, I have found your first point of concentrating on your final successful achievement to be the most beneficial. It helps the others to fall into place more. It’s like working from the roots upwards to build the tree. However the other two alone are great points as well.

Along with what Giovanna said, keeping my “why” out front along with concentration on the final successful achievement on a consistent basis keeps my fire burning strong and pushing past obstacles.

While on some level I would like to agree that you should always surround yourself with positive things… that can get old real quick. Sometimes you need to surround yourself with challenges and opportunities instead.

Hi Giovanna, you’re welcome. I think ‘why’ is a great question word. Thank for your add, Giovanna. :)

Hi Daphne, you’re right. We can pick up the good habits and attitudes from other positive people. Thanks for the comment, Daphne. :)

Hi Karl, I never heard that quote before. I’ll put it in my collection. Thank you so much, Karl. :)

Hi Jennifer, you’re welcome. The roots-tree you just said is a great example. Thank you, Jennifer. :)

Hi Derek, thanks for the suggest about surrounding yourself with challenges and opportunities as you said. :)

Most certainly, I agree that worrying is not going to help the situation. In fact, sometimes, worrying can prevent us from seizing opportunities that can provide the way out for ourselves.

    Great article!! Thanks for sharing!!

This is a great list. Sometimes I find that I am actually stronger and more in control when no one is around for me to “complain” to. I also believe in surrounding myself with inspiring books. Even if they just sit on my desk (unopened) they stimulate my ability to persevere.

I’m glad you’ve written about perseverance. This is really something that could make or break one’s opportunity for success. Got to remind myself to persevere nowadays :-) good day!

@Stacey, Great point about the books. That reminds me… last night for some reason I just wanted to have Think and Grow Rich right by me on the bed stand as I went to sleep. I thought keeping it close there would help me to sleep on everything I’ve been reading.

Hi Evelyn, pleased to see you here and leaving a comment. You’re right many opportunities lost because of our worries. Thanks for stopping by, Evelyn. :)

Hi Stacey, you’re right, listening to people’s complain could make us upset, but sometimes complain (positive) could also build up our personality. Maybe once in a while I must try your way : just sit on a desk … is it meditation?
Thanks for the comment, Stacey. :)

Hi Jocelyn, welcome. I am pleased if the article could bring any benefit to you. Thank you for stopping by and the comment, Jocelyn. :)

Hi Jennifer, thanks again for the comment. :)

    Arswino,

Some awesome tips here. If I may add, one of the most important things I’ve found that helps me persevere through tough times is engaging myself with tons of different activities I love to do.

This helps get me back into a positive state of mind because I’m completely enjoying the present moment. There’s no space for negativity when you’re totally absorbed in the now.

    Thanks for the article!

    Hey Arswino,

Great blog! This is my first time here and I’m loving it. Keeping our eyes set on the goal is a definite ingredient on perseverance. Many times people give up because they stop focusing on the goal and look at the obstacles instead.

Hi Celes, welcome and thank you very much for the kind words. :) Yes, you are right, often we look at the obstacles than focus on our goals.
